WASHINGTON – Perdue Foods of Gainesville, Ga., is recalling about 4,530 pounds of Applegate Naturals chicken nuggets that may be contaminated with plastic material, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Saturday.

The product, marketed by Applegate Farms, were produced on Sept. 28. The recall is rated Class I, posing the possibility of serious, adverse health consequences or death.
The action targets 8-ounce, boxed packages containing about 18 nuggets, with a “best before date” of Sept. 27 and marked with “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was discovered following consumer complaints. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions, authorities said. Consumers are urged to throw away the product or return it to the place of purchase.
