NORTH TONAWANDA – City Attorney Katherine D. Alexander, who was appointed to the post in December, announced last week she is running for a full term in the job in this fall’s election.
The 29-year-old Republican had been an assistant Niagara County attorney for four years and, simultaneously, assistant city attorney for two years, before the Common Council appointed her to succeed Shawn P. Nickerson as city attorney. Nickerson resigned after being appointed a part-time city judge.
As Nickerson’s assistant, Alexander, a graduate of Albany Law School, served as the Traffic Court prosecutor and took part in labor negotiations. As a county attorney, she handled cases of juvenile delinquents and Persons in Need of Supervision in Family Court.
