Winter hair care essentials

Every curly-haired woman knows the importance of having a winter hair care routine in place even before the first snowflake falls. The air doesn't just dry out your curls, it creates a drought for them. And, just like someone trapped in the desert without water, they are plagued with an unquenchable thirst that can only be satisfied with the right hair products.

While this winter routine still needs some tweaking as my 3B curls can be very picky, I've found these three products to work best so far:

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle; $3.99 (Only available at this price at Trader Joe's)

Typically when I wash my hair, I start off by detangling in the shower with this godsend of a conditioner. (Before you get confused as to why I start off using conditioner before shampoo, check out reverse shampoo rinsing). It's light enough not to oversaturate my hair with moisture and has enough slip to melt away the tangles as soon as I apply it. What I really love about this conditioner is the cooling sensation the tea tree adds to my scalp. If you're suffering from dry scalp or dandruff, this is the perfect conditioner to grab for. Seriously, who can beat that price?

SheaMoisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo; $10-$13

This is probably my favorite sulfate-free shampoo that I've tried so far and trust me, I've tried a lot. Because I have such crazy curly hair my scalp is constantly dry and in need of an insane amount of moisture, especially in the wintertime. The tea tree, willow bark extract, plantain enzyme work together to help reduce itching and irritation, remove buildup and detoxifying the scalp without stripping my hair. If you're a curly girl or someone that suffers from extremely dry scalp or dandruff I definitely recommend trying this shampoo out.

SheaMoisture SuperFruit Complex 10-IN-1 Renewal System Hair Masque; $10-$13

This is the last step in my hair washing routine and while it's not my favorite SheaMoisture product, it's slowly growing on me the more I use it. The slip isn't as great as the Tea Tree Tingle conditioner, but it definitely provides enough hydration for my 3B curls through its mixture of marula oil and biotin. Also, I absolutely adore the fruity smell this product leaves in my hair. That paired with how healthy it makes my hair look and feel is what keeps me using it over and over again especially during the colder months.
