Varysburg woman extricated from her car after crash

ORANGEVILLE – A Varysburg woman had to be extricated from her car by a Varysburg Fire and Rescue unit after she crashed into a tanker truck at the intersection of Route 20A and Route 98 about 1 p.m. Thursday, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday.

Dana Smith was reportedly northbound on Route 98 and, though she allegedly stopped for a stop sign at the intersection with Route 20A, she failed to yield and crashed into a tanker truck driven by James Marzolf of Strykersville.

Fire crews used the Jaws-of-Life device to free her. Smith was flown to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for treatment of her injuries.

Sean Salmon, of Varysburg, a passenger in Smith’s vehicle, was treated at Wyoming County Community Hospital for minor injures and released in the afternoon. Marzolf was taken to the Wyoming County Community Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The ages of the three victims were not released by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.
