LOCKPORT – A machine the City of Lockport bought in December to find the location of leaks in underground water lines was ordered sent back this week, as the city found it didn’t work properly.
The Common Council voted to return the correlator, as the machine is called, to Pow-R Mole Sales of Lancaster, which charged the city $20,869. The city is to receive a refund, and in the meantime, the city is buying another correlator, which officials hope will work better, from Lock City Supply of Lockport for $30,686. That price was the third-lowest bid the city received.
The original low bid from Matchpoint Inc. of Wilmington, N.C., was rejected before purchase because the unit offered didn’t meet the city’s written specifications. Pow-R Mole Sales had the second-lowest bid.
