John H. Napier, retired trial attorney, teacher

Feb. 2, 1923 – March 2, 2016

John H. Napier, a Buffalo trial attorney, died Wednesday in Beechwood Homes in Getzville. He was 93.

He was born in Rochester and graduated from Aquinas Institute in Rochester, Georgetown University and Cornell University Law School.

He was a Navy veteran who served in World War II.

Mr. Napier worked as a trial attorney at Napier, Fitzgerald and Kirby until his retirement in the early 2000s. He also taught trial techniques at the University at Buffalo Law School.

He was a past president of the Erie County Trial Lawyers Association and was named Erie County Bar Association Lawyer of the Year in 2005.

Before moving to Beechwood Homes, Mr. Napier lived in other locations in the area, including Buffalo and the Town of Tonawanda.

He coached Little League baseball for many years, and was a member of the Cherry Hill Club in Ontario.

Mr. Napier was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dee”, who died in 2011.

Survivors include two sons, Paul and John; a daughter, Ann; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mark Catholic Church, 401 Woodward Ave.
