‘Black Balloon Day’ will call attention to opiate crisis

Black balloons will fill the landscape in front of County Hall on Sunday morning.

The event is intended to commemorate those who have died as a result of opiates and to create new attention around the issue.

“Black Balloon Day” will begin at 11 a.m. at 92 Franklin St.

Dr. Gale R. Burstein, Erie County health commissioner, will be among the speakers. The event also will include members of the West Side Youth Development Coalition as well as the county’s opiate task force.

The balloons will go home with those who come to the event, so they can put them on their own properties.
