Drivers should be careful of potentially slick roads in some places on Wednesday morning thanks to snowfall atop a layer of ice.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. for Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Wyoming and Genesee counties. Less than an inch of additional snow is forecast, according to the National Weather Service in Cheektowaga.
On Grand Island, where schools were closed Wednesday, road conditions were slippery and snow-covered as more snow continued to fall.
On the I-190 south, the commute into downtown Buffalo from Niagara Falls was a little underspeed. The highway had some snow accumulation in northern Grand Island, and it was clear but wet closer to downtown Buffalo.
Several large pileups were reported due to conditions Tuesday night. Icy roads closed the Skyway late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.
