Power Take: Bona men hope to keep Philly sports woes going

The St. Bonaventure men have a huge game against Saint Joseph’s Wednesday in Rochester, one that could decide an NCAA at-large berth. There’s reason for hope. They’re playing a Philly team.

These are grim times in Philadelphia sports. The Sixers fell to 8-52 on Monday. They’re 45-179 the last three years.

The Eagles finished 7-9 and haven’t won a playoff game in eight years. Chip Kelly resigned as coach. Things are so bad, they turned the football operation over to Tom Donahoe.

The Phillies had the worst record in baseball last season and haven’t had a winning season since 2011. The Flyers are close to a playoff spot, making them the town’s pro darlings.

Philly’s indoor lacrosse team, the Wings, won six NLL titles - then moved to New England. Rocky Balboa’s protege, Donnie, even lost his title fight in “Creed.”

They are doing well in college hoops. Villanova reached No. 1 before losing to Xavier. Temple and Saint Joseph’s are NCAA contenders. LaSalle is 6-20, but had a huge upset two weeks ago against – oh, yeah – Bona. I guess it’s nervous time, after all.
