Don’t assume businessman is best choice for president

It’s no surprise that Rep. Chris Collins endorsed Donald Trump, another self-absorbed businessman. Both seem to think that business acumen is the font of all wisdom.

How did this work for the citizens of Flint, Mich.? With reverence to the bottom line, the governor, a wealthy and successful entrepreneur with no public policy background, managed to poison an entire city’s water supply. A city, ironically, that’s in a state surrounded by the Great Lakes.

As with any good business model, the governor has an out. Unlike Trump, he doesn’t have to declare bankruptcy. The taxpayers of both Michigan and the rest of the nation must now pick up the tab for his malfeasance.
