BNRinkside: Quinnipiac gains votes in top spot

It's now nearly unanimous -- Quinnipiac is the best Division I men's college hockey team in the nation. The Bobcats received 48 first-place votes in the latest USCHO.com poll. North Dakota and Boston College each got one first-place vote.

Quinnipiac kept first on my ballot at 25-2-7 and No. 1 in the PairWise.

This week I left Minnesota off my ballot because, quite frankly, I can't quite decide what kind of team the Golden Gophers are this season. Robert Morris earned No. 20 on my poll as the regular season Atlantic Hockey champion and a seasoned, veteran team that is playing really well. Unfortunately for the Colonials, they aren't high enough in the PairWise to make the NCAA tournament as an at-large bid. They need to win the conference postseason title to earn the automatic bid.

My ballot:

1. Quinnipiac
2. North Dakota
3. Providence
4. St. Cloud State
5. Boston College
6. Michigan
7. Denver
8. Boston University
9. Notre Dame
10. Yale
11. Nebraska-Omaha
12. Harvard
13. Penn State
14. UMass-Lowell
15. Michigan Tech
16. Cornell
17. Rensselaer
18. St. Lawrence
19. Minnesota State
20. Robert Morris
