Harzfest 2016, the fifth annual fundraising event for the Jim Harszlak Foundation, takes place from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday in The Eldredge Club, 17 Broad St., with food, raffles and lots of music, from 55 Main, Brass Monkeez, Meet the Bacons and Clearwater.

The foundation was started with memorial funds donated after Harszlak died of colon cancer in 2012. The foundation has helped over 100 families with monetary donations toward medical bills, funerals, fundraisers and scholarships.

This week:

• The Common Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 200 Niagara St. An informal session begins at 6.

• There will be three openings for the Tonawanda City School Board on the May 17 ballot. The three-year terms will run from July 1 through June 30, 2019. Board application packets can be picked up from the board office, 100 Hinds Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Petitions must be signed by at least 100 eligible/qualified voters. Completed petitions must be filed with the board clerk by 5 p.m. April 27. You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, resident of the district for one school year prior to the election, and able to read and write. The Erie County Association of School Boards is holding a free training session for prospective school board members on April 2 at Erie 1 BOCES in West Seneca.
