FORBES, Rev. Alan Townley

FORBES - Rev. Alan Townley Of Boca Raton, FL, died peacefully at home on February 18, 2016.
He was born on November 28, 1922, the fifth child and second son of Philip Jones Forbes and Mary Ellen Townley of Brooklyn, NY. In 1939 he was
employed as a vocalist in Rev. Percy Crawford's Young People's Church of the Air quartet. He received two
degrees from Eastern Baptist College and Theological School during those seven years in Philadelphia. He moved to Buffalo in 1947 to join the staff of
Prospect Avenue Baptist Church, but soon after founded the interdenominational Youthtime Evangelism Fellowship, providing positive, gospel-centered ministry to teenagers. In the early 1960's, the ministry purchased a former men's fraternity building at 512 Pearl Street. The Buffalo Christian Center offered a gathering place for both recreation and ministry to the churches of greater Buffalo and southern Ontario for nearly 50 years. His daily radio broadcast, Good News at Noon, was aired on WXRA and later WDCX for decades. He retired in 1992 to Florida where he continued to minister in several venues. He is remembered as an effective evangelist, respected for his gracious, energetic personality, a talented vocalist and visionary leader who served the Christian community and his Savior faithfully. His wife of 72 years, L. Jane Woods Forbes, survives him., as do daughters Letha (Tyler) Flynn of Columbus, OH, Victoria (Abe) Dueck of Washingtonville, NY, and Michelle (John) Ramey of Sacramento, CA. Mr. Forbes was loved by seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Grand Island, NY, on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Whitehaven Road Baptist Church, 1290 Whitehaven Road. The family will greet friends from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. A time of music and reflection will precede the service, which begins at 4 PM. The service will also be streamed live at the church's website: wrbc.org
