Neighbor rescues four from East Aurora fire, mother at ECMC for observation

A neighbor rescued a mother and her three children from a suspicious fire late Friday afternoon in their Olean Road trailer home, East Aurora Police Lt. Patrick W. Welch reported.

The fire was reported at 4:24 p.m. at a trailer home at 1021 Olean Road, Welch said.

The fire was discovered by the next-door neighbor, who entered the burning structure and rescued the 28-year-old mother and three of her children ages 5, 4 and one month, Welch said.

“All were found in a semi-conscious state due to smoke inhalation,” Welch said.

The three children were taken to Mercy Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released.

Their mother was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where she was treated for smoke inhalation and admitted for observation of conditions not related to the fire, Welch said.

Authorities are investigating the mother’s involvement in the fire, Welch said.

He did not release the name of the neighbor because of the continuing investigation.

The house trailer was a total loss, Welch said. Damages were estimated in excess of $50,000 to the structure and its contents.

The father of the children who lives at the address was at work at the time of the fire. He and his three children are staying with relatives.

Two more children who live at the address and who were not home at the time of the fire are staying with their father.
