DARCY, Melodia Louise

DARCY - Melodia Louise Age 96, passed away February 26, 2016 after a short illness, beloved wife of the late Gerald Darcy; loving mother of Warren (Marsha) Darcy and Virginia (Carl) Ludwig; cherished grandmother of Jeffrey (Connie) and Tristan (Jacque)Ludwig; dearest great-grandmother of Nicholas, Keira, Christopher, Bradley and Avery; daughter of the late Dana and Laura Blackmarr; also survived by a brother, Roland Blackmarr; survived by niece, Victoria Vernau; sister-in-law, Gloria Zdarsky and dear friend, Anthony Carroll. Melodia was born in Chicago, IL but moved to Buffalo when she was an infant and she spent the remainder of her life there, living in the same family home for over 70 years, until health problems necessitated a move to assisted living in 2008. Melodia graduated from Oberlin College in 1941 as a piano major. Though she loved music, she did not pursue a musical career, but rather attended Bryant and Stratton College Business College and worked as a secretary for Bell Aircraft Co. after graduating. She met her future husband, Gerald Darcy at a musical function and they married in 1946. She left work and became a full time homemaker and mother. She enjoyed active memberships at the College Club of Buffalo and the Chromatic Club of Buffalo. Melodia was never happier than when she was surrounded by family. She was above all a good listener, compassionate friend and devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at Garden Gate for the wonderful care Melodia received since being admitted in 2009. Private services. Arrangements by the DANIEL R. SMOLAREK FUNERAL HOME.
