Dana Voytovich (Cheektowaga) became the ninth Erie Community College bowler to capture the men’s all-events title in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament Saturday at AMF Airport lanes. Voytovich made All-America and won the Kerm Helmer MVP Award, named after the late ECC coach.
Voytovich, who had a 20-pin lead over Bob Jones of Mohawk Valley CC after Friday, finished with a 599 pins in three team games on Saturday to wrap up the title with 2,406, 27 pins better than runner-up over Kaine McNett of Highland CC (Ill.).
The last ECC all-events champion in the nationals was PBA Tour pro Ryan Ciminelli in 2005.
Voytovich also captured the singles title with his 676 series rolled Friday.
Emily Notebaert of Corning CC nearly match Voytovich’s total with a 2,406 for 12 games to win women’s all-events. The freshman from the Rochester area also won the women’s singles with 606 and teamed with Victoria Maracle to win women’s doubles.
Suffolk County CC won the men’s team title with 13,100. Schenectady took the women’s team crown with 11,928. ECC was fifth in the men’s scoring and sixth in women’s.
