Gary P. Snyder, Kenmore police captain, school bus driver

April 14, 1944 – Feb. 17, 2016

Gary P. Snyder, a retired Kenmore police captain and school bus driver, died last Wednesday in his home in the Town of Tonawanda. He was 71.

Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Kenmore East High School and married his high school sweetheart, the former Cynthia Zimmer, in 1964.

Mr. Snyder joined the Kenmore Police Department in 1966 and rose to the rank of captain. He retired in 2001. He also drove a school bus for the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District for more than 45 years.

An outdoors enthusiast, he built a cabin on land he owned near Springville and enjoyed walking among the many trees he planted there with his children. He enjoyed traveling and was a history buff.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Phil; a daughter, Tiffany; his mother, Pauline; a brother, Richard; and two grandsons.

Services will be private.
