Woman loses thousands and legal papers in theft from parked car

A North Tonawanda woman reported property worth about $5,000 and legal papers for the sale of her house were stolen Friday by someone who smashed the window of her car parked outside Holy Spirit Church on Dakota Street off Delaware Avenue in North Buffalo.

The woman reported that between 6:01 p.m. and 6:29 p.m., someone broke the driver’s side rear window of her 2012 Honda Civic and stole a backpack containing work identification card, work keys, garage door openers to her home, a Dell laptop and mouse, a checkbook and all legal documents related to the sale of her house. The thief also took a Vera Bradley purse that contained the woman’s driver’s license, $20, RayBan sunglasses, four Buffalo Sabres tickets, several credit and debit cards, a Canisius College student ID and gift cards to various stores that were worth $2,000.
