Electrical malfunction probed as cause of fatal fire

Fire investigators are looking at an electrical malfunction as a possible cause of the fire that killed two men and severely burned a 9-year-old girl, according to a source close to the investigation.

Investigators are looking at electrical connections in the multifamily house at the corner of Humber and Litchfield avenues.

Investigators also are trying to determine if working smoke detectors were in the house.

Firefighters remain on the scene while fire marshals and the Buffalo police crime scene unit examines the burned out house.

A ladder truck was brought in to help investigators get a view from above. A fire marshal and Buffalo police photographer were seen going up in the ladder.

Property records show that the owner is Sayara Uddin, who lives in Brooklyn. The two-family house was purchased in 2013 for $24,500, according county records. The house is assesed at $46,000.

The City Inspections Department says there are no code violations listed for the address.

Uddin also owns property at 2097 Bailey Ave., according to property records.
