Edwin J. Skuller, former owner and president of Stewart & Benson Travel Services, died last Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla. He was 88.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was a graduate of the Bexley School in Bexley, Ohio, served in the Navy, then earned a degree in business from Ohio State University.
Mr. Skuller came to Buffalo in 1953 and acquired Stewart & Benson, a luggage and leather goods shop on Court Street downtown. He added a travel agency to the business and became one of the first in the area to offer charter flights to Las Vegas.
He established a headquarters at 501 Main St. downtown and expanded to eight locations, primarily in suburban malls. He sold the business in the 1980s to a partnership of which he was a member. He moved to Boca Raton after he retired in 1988.
He was a president of the Montefiore Club and a member of Temple Beth Zion.
His wife of 50 years, the former Nina Glickstein, died in 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Wald and Betsy Blum; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday in Boca Raton.
