Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda and Jack Jurek of Lackawanna were among 36 bowlers to advance to the cashers round of qualifying Wednesday in the Barbasol PBA Players Championship at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus, Ohio.
Ciminelli had a high game of 258 as he shot 1,854 in his eight-game block and stands in ninth place.
Szczerbinski finished his round with a 198 for a 1,765 total, good for 32nd place.
Jurek had a consistent round with seven of his eight games ranging from 222 to 257 as he bowled 1,860 (232.5 average) to climb from 59th place on Tuesday to a tie for 34th.
Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga missed the cut to 36 after her round of 1,706 and a total of 3,587 for 46th place.
Graham Fach of Guelph, Ont., put a 1,970 round on top of the 2,004 he bowled on Tuesday to take the qualifying lead with a 3,974 total (248.38 average).
After the cashers round, the field will be cut to 24 bowlers for the start of match play Thursday night.
