Eugene A. Ruszkowski, retired bakery worker, Cheektowaga maintenance supervisor

Eugene A. Ruszkowski, of Cheektowaga, a retired bakery worker and Town of Cheektowaga maintenance supervisor, died Monday in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport, after a brief illness. He was 85.

Born in Depew, he attended Emerson High School and served in the Marine Corps stateside in the early 1950s, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a shipping clerk and baker for Millbrook Bread until the bakery closed in 1980. He went to work for the Town of Cheektowaga the following year and retired in 1992.

While working for Millbrook, Mr. Ruszkowski was a local shop chairman for the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

Mr. Ruszkowski enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Dorothy Wesolowski; a son, Richard; a daughter, Kathleen Swann; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be arranged.
