Madea’s back! But not for long. In “Madea on the Run,” everybody’s favorite mama is on the lam this time, bringing hilarity and mayhem along the way.
Madea is the uber-popular character created, written and performed by Tyler Perry, first on the touring stage and later on the big screen. Along the way, Perry built a veritable media empire, with numerous TV and film franchises to his credit. But it all began with Madea, the wisecracking spiritual matriarch who can’t seem to keep her mouth shut or stay out of trouble.
Perry returns to the role for a limited engagement, and appears alongside fan-favorites Cassi Davis (“House of Payne”), Rhonda Davis, Tony Hightower, David Stewart Jr., Maurice Lauchner, LaToya London (“American Idol”), Claudette Ortiz, Dorsey Levens (formerly of the NFL) and Tasha Page Lockhart.
“Madea on the Run” plays Shea’s Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 and 3 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21. The show takes a quick detour to the Rochester Auditorium Theatre for two shows on Feb. 20. Tickets for the Buffalo engagement are $45 and $50 (box office, Ticketmaster).
