NIAGARA FALLS – Antone C. “Tony” Martello, of Niagara Falls, a retired local postal official, died Sunday in Elderwood at Grand Island Nursing Center. He was 93.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., he served in the Army in World War II, took part in the Battle of the Bulge and was hospitalized with frostbite. While visiting the Niagara Falls area after his discharge, he met the former Mary L. Ricotta and they were married in 1948.
Following his marriage, Mr. Martello began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Niagara Falls as a letter carrier and went on to become secretary to the postmaster. He retired after 25 years of service.
He enjoyed gardening and bingo. He also was a longtime volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Vincent; a daughter, Nanette Trapani; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave.
