Will North keeps winning
A few local teams were in action on Friday night, and a top girls basketball game couldn’t be stopped by the weather.
Williamsville North (19-0) stayed unbeaten with a 67-49 win over Williamsville East (17-3). Ericka Taplin scored 24 points and Clare Ahern added 19 for the Spartans.
In boys hockey, St. Joe’s knocked off Massena, 3-1, in the first round of the Massena Invitational. Erich Thur had two goals for the Marauders, while Daniel Mikolajczak finished with 20 saves.
Weather causes problems
The girls hockey Federation championship game between Monsignor Martin and Williamsville was postponed. No word yet as to when the game will be made up.
The Canisius at St. Joe’s basketball game has been rescheduled for Monday at St. Joe’s. The varsity game tips off at 5 p.m. to conclude a tripleheader (freshmen at 2 p.m., JV at 3:30 p.m.).
Southtown rivals also had games postponed until Saturday. Frontier and Hamburg will meet in a nonleaguer at 1 p.m. at Hamburg. St. Francis and Bishop Timon-St. Jude will now meet at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis. Archbishop Walsh’s clash with St. Mary’s of Lancaster on Friday has been postponed.
The Lockport Kiwanis Tournament in girls basketball is down to one game per team, as Friday’s schedule will be played on Saturday.
Class Diving at Maryvale was canceled; no makeup date was announced.
