A three-alarm blaze early Thursday destroyed a woodshop at the Timberbuilt company on Eagle Drive in North Collins.
Firefighters called to the blaze at 3:30 a.m. at 10821 Eagle Drive arrived to find the woodshop engulfed in flames and partially collapsed. Timberbuilt is a company that builds timber-frame homes.
North Collins Assistant Fire Chief Keith Ayers said more than seven or eight fire companies were on the scene, and were hampered by the wind and cold. “Everything was turning to ice,” he said.
The woodshop was a total loss and the adjacent storefront office sustained heavy damage from water and smoke. Fire officials said the metal roof of the woodshop collapsed atop burning embers, meaning heavy equipment had to be brought in to move the roof so firefighters could completely extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters also had to move a large propane tank that was leaking away from the flames.
Fire companies responding were North Collins, Collins, Eden, Lawton, Langford, Reservation, Boston and Brant.
