Darien Lake’s 2016 season will open with a new $1.5 million extreme water ride.
RipCurl Racer, a six flume water slide complex, is a capital investment project announced Thursday by the theme park.
The park said construction of the ride will begin upon approval of an incentive package from the Genesee County Economic Development Center and building permit completion. The ride is scheduled to be fully operational for the water park’s 2016 opening day, May 21.
RipCurl Racer will feature a slide tower and six slides, meandering roughly 294 feet in length from an elevation of 42 feet. Six mat-riding competitors will launch themselves headfirst into tunnels and rocket through the twisting tunnels before accelerating into separate racing lanes.
The main park opens May 7.
