A 38-year-old woman is accused of killing a 33-year-old woman in the Village of Perry over the weekend, State Police reported.
Kira Kastenhuber, 38, of Hope Street in Perry, was charged with the second-degree murder in the death of Desirae Withey, 33, of Borden Avenue, police said.
The victim’s body was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Saturday after one of her two children, ages 6 and 2, sought assistance from a neighbor. That neighbor alerted Perry police, who responded to 84 Borden.
Perry police called in the State Police, Wyoming County Child Protective Services and the Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office.
Wyoming County District Attorney Donald G. O’Geen said the murder was committed on Saturday.
O’Geen said the women were acquainted with each other, and that he believed they worked together.
An autopsy performed by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death as asphyxiation and multiple injuries.
Police also responded to a call of a possible overdose at Kastenhuber’s residence on Sunday. Kastenhuber, the mother of three children, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and released Monday afternoon.
Kastenhuber was arrested Monday and was arraigned in Warsaw Village Court by Justice Michael Hyjek. She was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail without bail.
A felony hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.
