Lancaster man arrested on federal child porn charges

Joseph Lombardo, 24, of Lancaster, was arrested Tuesday on federal charges of production, receipt and possession of child pornography in a case in which he allegedly coaxed at least three girls living in Lancaster and Cheektowaga to send him naked pictures of themselves through social media contacts.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said Lombardo, who was ordered held without bail pending further court proceedings, faces a mandatory prison term of between 15 to 30 years if convicted as charged.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango said the investigation began in the spring of 2014 when a then-15-year-old girl complained to Lancaster police that three or four years earlier she had met on a social media site a man who got her to send him “at least” 50 naked pictures of herself. She claimed he demanded more pictures and warned that if she did not cooperate he would post her pictures on the Internet.

Authorities said Lombardo had similar experiences with at least two other girls.

During his appearance Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy, Lombardo was ordered to remain in custody pending a detention hearing Wednesday afternoon.
