Amherst property owners are being reminded that both their Erie County and town taxes are due on or before Tuesday, and that alternative methods of payment and extended hours of collection at the clerk’s office have been arranged to accommodate them.
Normal hours for the clerk’s office – which are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday – will been extended from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Tuesday. Town Hall will be closed Monday for Presidents’ Day. For those paying in person, the clerk’s office accepts cash, checks, money orders, credit and debit cards. A service fee will be charged on credit and debit card transactions.
Mailed payments must be postmarked by Tuesday to avoid penalties. Full payments can be made by check or money order at select M&T Bank locations, which are listed on the back of tax bills.
“There are several options to pay town and county taxes: By mail, in person, online, and at select M & T bank branches,” said Town Clerk Marjory Jaeger.
“Providing several payment methods and additional hours for collection are just a couple of ways I am making the clerk’s office user-friendly. It gives our residents an opportunity to pay their taxes outside of traditional methods and office hours,” Jaeger added.
The clerk’s office is located in Amherst Town Hall, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.
