Woman charged with kicking officer in stomach

A Westminster Avenue woman was arrested early Saturday after she allegedly kicked a police officer in the stomach as the officer tried to quell a domestic dispute.

Briana Ponzo, 20, also was accused of throwing knives at a visiting 23-year-old Rickert Avenue man, inflicting a laceration on his hand in the 1:15 a.m. incident.

Ponzo’s kick knocked the officer into a wall, Northeast District police reported.

She was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
