Cheektowaga

The town is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Town of Cheektowaga Board of Ethics, which currently has two vacancies, Supervisor Diane Benczkowski announced last week.

Applicants must be Cheektowaga residents and must not hold any position in any political party. The position is voluntary and no compensation is provided. Confidentiality and a commitment to the duties of the position are required. Applicants are asked to include their registered party affiliation in their letter as no more than three members from any one political party may serve on the Board.

Any person interested in becoming a member of the Board of Ethics can submit a letter and resume to the attention of the Supervisor to Town Hall, 3301 Broadway, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 or emailed to supervisorsoffice@tocny.org.

Also, parents and guardians of Maryvale students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to attend an awareness forum about trends involving the use of drugs and alcohol by youths.

Wednesday’s forum – the third and final session offered at Maryvale for the school year – is designed as an attempt to confront the issues of drug and alcohol use in order to create a safe environment for children and help parents feel better prepared to discuss the issue with their child.

Parents are required to attend one parent awareness forum at Maryvale in order for their children to be eligible to participate in athletics, clubs, musicals and dances.

The event will be held through a partnership with the Erie County Council for the Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse and the Cheektowaga Police Department.

The forum takes place at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Maryvale High School, 1050 Maryvale Drive, Cheektowaga.

Parents from Cheektowaga Central may also attend through an agreement between the two districts.
