Wedge to Jays as adviser

Eric Wedge, the 2007 American League manager of the year, former manager of the Buffalo Bisons and a member of the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame, has joined the Toronto Blue Jays as a player development adviser, the franchise announced Saturday.

A news release on the hiring states that Wedge will work with the front office and Gill Kim, director of player development, on strategies to enhance the player development system.

Wedge went 178-108 as Bisons manager from 2001-02 and was named Baseball America’s minor league manager of the year for 2001. He managed 10 years in the majors with Seattle and Cleveland.
