Three charged in attempt to hold up Clinton Street convenience store

Three suspects were arrested early Saturday after they allegedly attempted to rob a Kaisertown convenience store about 11:25 p.m. Friday.

South District police said they captured two males, ages 16 and 17, and Joseph Hooper, 20, of Weiss Street, in the wake of a struggle with a store clerk at the Clinton Mini Mart, 1880 Clinton St.

Police said the three suspects entered the store together and remained in the back of the store for a time before they approached the counter. One of the juvenile suspects reached for a gun, but after an altercation with the cashier, the three fled the store, police said. Officers caught one of the juveniles at a house on Cable Street, about a block from the store, while the other was collared near the store. Hooper was picked up at his home, two blocks from the crime scene.

All three were charged with attempted second-degree robbery. The juvenile who produced the gun also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
