Several Orchard Park residents have received robo calls that police say is a scam.
The message from a male with a foreign accent claims to represent the U.S. Treasury and warns that an “enforcement action” will occur if the message is ignored. The caller leaves a call back number and asks the homeowner to respond as soon as possible.
At least 30 residents have contacted the Orchard Park Police about these calls.
No law enforcement agency would use this method of contacting an individual who was being investigated, Orchard Park police said.
“It is a scam where the criminals will attempt to draw out vital personal information such as social security numbers or to demand payment of fines,” the Orchard park police said in a statement. “The simplest and best method of dealing with these calls is to ignore them.”
If you are aware of a vulnerable individual who you believe may be susceptible to this scam, please contact them and make sure they understand the situation, police added.
Should anyone have revealed sensitive personal information to these callers, please contact your local police immediately.
