Sabres broadcaster Rob Ray gobbles hot dog, earns ESPN fame

Buffalo Sabres broadcaster Rob Ray knows his way around a hot dog.

During Wednesday night's MSG broadcast of the Sabres-Canadiens game [full coverage of that here], hosts Brian Duff and Brad May were in discussion with Rob Ray and Dan Dunleavy, and a quick switch of the camera captured Ray gobbling down a hot dog. (A crepe may have been more appropriate given the French-Canadian setting, but we get it.)

ESPN personality Scott Van Pelt, a master at tracking down weird things to see and hear, picked up on the bizarre moment of snack consumption and added it to his "Best Thing I saw/Heard Today" segment. Tacking on the audio from the Hartford Yard Goats' fight song, the result was a brilliant moment in mash-ups.

Ray's link to hot dogs in Western New York is considerable; he opened Rayzor's Dawg House in Springville and plans to open a second location in Eden, and he talked with The Buffalo News' Refresh editor in 2013 about his eating habits.

Whether the hot-dog gaffe was planned or not, it's decent publicity for Ray's meaty business venture.
