Jeffrey Sgroi, a West Seneca businessman and community advocate, died Wednesday after a short illness at a local hospital. He was 45.
As chief financial officer and partner of Sgroi Financial LLC, he helped lead a 40-year tradition of success at his West Seneca business.
He supervised and managed the internal working, records and technology of the office, was the liaison with broker/dealer Cadaret, Grant and Co., managed financial industry compliance for the firm and established an Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction.
Mr. Sgroi was heavily involved with the West Seneca and Western New York community. He served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Orchard Park as well as the Academy of Digital Media in the West Seneca School District.
He was on the International Junior Masters Finance Committee at the East Aurora Country Club, was assistant varsity baseball coach at St. Francis High School and served on the Kids First Golf Tournament Committee and ran the Grandfathers Memorial FMC Golf Tournament for The First Tee of Western New York.
He also was a judge and consultant at the regional and state level for the Distributive Education Clubs of America, and spent many hours as a Junior Achievement volunteer.
After graduating from West Seneca East High School, he went on to Niagara University, where he played Division I baseball and was first team all-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He graduated with a bachelor of science in commerce.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Sgroi; two brothers, Patrick and Gregory; and his sister, Jennifer.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 6 p.m. Monday at the St. Francis High School Auditorium, 4129 Lakeshore Road, Athol Springs.
