Dorothy Ann Mueller, WWII vet, grocery owner

Dec. 2, 1922 – Feb. 4, 2016

Dorothy Anne Mueller, a World War II veteran and longtime owner of an Alden grocery store, died Thursday at the Batavia Veterans Administration Medical Center after a short illness. She was 93.

Born Dorothy Anne Siller in Buffalo, she was a graduate of the former Pine Hill High School in Cheektowaga.

She and her late husband, Joseph J. Mueller, operated the Townline Grocery Store on Broadway in Alden from 1958 to 1980.

She served with the Army Air Forces in Africa and the Middle East during World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant. She received the America Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

She was a life member of Lancaster Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7275 and a member of the Townline Original Home Bureau.

Her husband died in 2008. She had lived in Rochester since 2011.

Survivors include her son, Larry; and three daughters, Kathy Liszka, Linda Kruger and Karen Mueller.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from Pine Lawn Cemetery Chapel, 2951 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga.
