The ninth annual Mardi Gras Jam takes place at 7 p.m. Friday in Buffalo Iron Works (49 Illinois St.), and in keeping with the established tradition of the event, some serious New Orleans talent will join forces with roots musicians in our region to underscore the fact that we are all tied to the birthplace of American music every time we commit to getting funky and soulful.
This year, renowned New Orleans guitarist, singer, songwriter and bandleader Marc Stone and his band of funky gentlemen (and women) will be joined by Chuck Campbell of the country’s preeminent Sacred Steel band, the Campbell Brothers, for a headlining set. We’ve hosted Stone here in Buffalo before - he and Josh Paxton shared the bill as openers for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Get the Led Out. This time, he’ll bring his full ensemble along for the ride.
New Orleans-by-way-of-Buffalo will be the theme, and in keeping with that theme, our own Heavenly Chillbillies and Kenmore East High School student band the French Quarter Hounds will handle the opening duties on Friday.
Tickets for the 18-and-over show are $15 advance (Ticketfly.com) and $18 at the door.
