Western New York bankruptcy filings drop 8.2 percent

Bankruptcy filings in the Buffalo-Rochester region declined 8.2 percent in January from a year ago, to 293, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Almost all of the decrease came in Rochester, where filings dropped 17.4 percent. The number of cases filed in Buffalo declined 1.6 percent.

The number of January bankruptcy filings in Western New York has fallen for three consecutive years.
