Convenience store employees detain man caught stealing Red Bull

NIAGARA FALLS – Workers at a Buffalo Avenue convenience store fought with a man they believed was stealing cans of Red Bull on Sunday night.

The suspect, identified as Kevin Carpenter of Ontario Avenue, ran from the 7-Eleven at 6802 Buffalo Ave. when police arrived and was caught after a short chase, according to a Niagara Falls police report.

At about 8:15 p.m., the store owner tried to stop Carpenter as he headed toward the exit without paying. Carpenter, 50, flashed his jacket open and the owner saw Red Bull cans in his jacket, the report said. When Carpenter tried to force his way out of the store, another employee helped hold him on the ground.

When police arrived, Carpenter started running down Buffalo Avenue and then down 69th Street. He gave himself up on the 100 block of 69th, the report said.

Carpenter, who was found to also have five outstanding warrants, was charged with third-degree robbery, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

The same store was also robbed last Monday.
