Family displaced in fire at Town of Lockport apartment complex

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A fire in a Robinson Road apartment complex displaced one family Friday night, but other occupants were allowed to return to the building after smoke was cleared from the interior, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said.

No one was home at 6281 Robinson, apartment 11, when the fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m., according to reports. Deputies entering the building encountered heavy smoke in the hallways, and managed to douse the flames using a pair of fire extinguishers. Assisted by members of the Rapids Volunteer Fire Company, they then evacuated the remainder of the complex until crews could air out the building.

The displaced family will be staying with relatives, deputies said. An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is continuing. There was no damage estimate available on Saturday.
