Buffalo woman tapped to serve as interim head of Thruway Authority

ALBANY – The state Thruway Authority on Tuesday is expected to tap Maria Lehman as interim executive director of the agency that operates the state’s biggest highway system.

Lehman, a Buffalo resident, had served as the Cuomo administration’s top liaison for Peace Bridge matters, a post that put her in the front seat of battles in recent years with Canadian officials during nasty cross-border wars over capital projects on and around the span.

Lehman is a former Erie County public works commissioner.

The executive director’s job is opening following the departure of Robert Megna, Cuomo’s former budget director, who is taking a senior post at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
