Members of mosque are great neighbors
The Hallmark Channel sets the standard for giving us those touching moments of family and holidays, especially this time of the year. Sometimes that makes it difficult for our lives to match up to those feelings in our busy lives. How often do we have time to reach out to a neighbor?
One afternoon right before Christmas, our doorbell rang. I answered the door to find a well-dressed, attractive, well-spoken, young man. He introduced himself as a representative of the mosque on Heim Road. He asked my husband and me if we had seen the sign in front of the mosque wishing their neighbors a happy holiday and thanking them. We had seen the sign and told him how nice that was. He handed us a box of chocolates, to extend a more personal thank you for being good neighbors, and a holiday greeting card that was signed by the president of Islamic Society of Niagara Frontier. This was such a kind and unexpected gesture that it seemed like a Hallmark moment of what the world could and should be.
