Thief steals $16,000 from distracted vehicle buyer

Ferry-Fillmore District police are investigating the theft of $16,000 in cash that was being used to buy a 2010 Cadillac Escalade at a Genesee Street automotive-repair shop Monday.

The victim told police that the cash was in a paper bag that he left inside another vehicle while at New Chrome Motor, on Genesee Street, west of Fillmore Avenue.

As he was providing some information for the transaction, he was distracted, allowing someone to steal the money, according to the police report.

Investigators are eyeing a possible person of interest in the theft.
