A 29-year-old Cheektowaga man was seriously injured when he was struck by gunfire Monday afternoon on the city’s East Side, Buffalo police reported.

Officers responded just after 2 p.m. to a call of shots fired in the first block of Kermit Avenue, between Bailey and Olympic avenues, Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said.

The man was taken to Erie County Medical Center in a private vehicle with injuries that appeared to be serious, he said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call or text the city’s confidential tip-call line at (716) 847-2255.
