Three local quit programs

New York State Smokers’ Quitline: Smokers looking to quit can receive free resources and assistance, including connections to local programs. Call the line, based at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, at (866) NY-QUITS or visit nysmokefree.com.

Just Breathe tobacco cessation: Roswell Park regularly offers free, five-week courses, and booster classes. The next course starts Jan. 25, though someone who looks to quit can “jump in anytime,” said hospital tobacco cessation coach Stephanie Segal. Those who attend receive a nicotine assessment, professional cessation guidance, group support, relaxation strategies, relapse prevention, medication referrals and free nicotine replacement medication. UB Quit Group: The University at Buffalo Psychological Services Center hosts small group classes that uses a combination of proven group therapy and nicotine replacement strategies. Three-quarters of those who take the classes complete them smoke-free. Seven sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and one Friday over 2½ weeks. The next class session starts Jan. 11. The cost is $65. Those interested are asked to call 645-3697.
