Two homes struck, shotgun discharged in wild robbery attempt

An aborted robbery attempt led to a single shotgun blast followed by a runaway vehicle slamming into two homes in the city’s East Delavan-Grider area on Monday night, Northeast District police reported.

The mayhem began at about 8:40 p.m. on Wyoming Avenue, when a man putting his Chevrolet Trailblazer in gear was pulled from the vehicle by two other men. One of the thieves had a single-barrel shotgun, which went off without striking anyone after the driver pushed the firearm away, police stated.

All three men fled from the vehicle, which traveled across Wyoming Avenue, striking two homes between East Delavan and Northland avenues.

Police on Monday night said nobody in the homes was injured.

The incident occurred on the section of Wyoming Avenue that’s south of East Delavan, five blocks east of Grider Street.
