One man arrested in Buffalo gunpoint robbery

Northeast District police have arrested a 51-year-old Buffalo man, one of two people accused of threatening another man with a black handgun and then stealing $2,000 and a cell phone from him Sunday in the city’s Kensington-Eggert area, police announced Monday.

Officers charged Kevin Smith, of Weston Avenue, with first-degree robbery following the incident on Gail Avenue, just north of the Kensington Expressway, west of Eggert Road. Police apparently still are looking for a co-defendant in the case.

Immediately after the robbery, at least one of the thieves ran into a nearby Gail Avenue home, and police later recovered the stolen cell phone on the rear porch of that home. The victim later identified Smith as one of the robbers, according to police reports.
