FRIENDSHIP — A Portageville man was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday after deputies observed him driving eastbound in the westbound lane of West Main Street in the Town of Friendship, authorities said.
Clifford L. Cole, 55, was charged with DWI, refusal of a breath screening test and failure to keep right, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Officers patrolling during a DWI saturation patrol said they observed Cole’s grey pickup truck traveling in the wrong lane and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, which Cole allegedly ignored, according to a news release.
Cole turned right onto East Water Street where he stopped and was arrested without incident after failing field sobriety tests and refusing a breath test, police said.
He was arraigned in Friendship Town Court and released. He is due in court on Jan. 12.
Wellsville police assisted with the arrest.
